About Me
Since October of 2003 when I was rear ended in an auto accident, I was in horrible pain 24 hours a day and was being treated by a series of doctors I was sent to by the insurance company. Over the next several years, Doctors gave me just about every type of pain medicine imaginable and continued to call it ” Pain Management “. This tradional approach to pain management continued to cause me nothing but ongoing problems with my health, both mental and physical. The crush of life and getting through each day with the combination of pain and drugs finally took a severe toll on my life, my job and my family. I am one of the fortunate ones who has a wife willing to stand by me, love me and was able to find me Dr. Jerry Rand at Bay Recovery, got me admitted with him on an emergency basis where I am still being treated by Dr. Rand and his staff every week.
I have found it not only the path back to life, but a true learning experience being able to see and understand a lot about Chronic Pain, its causes, the underlying physical and mental causes and really amazing, the lack of need for conventional or traditional medicines ie: Opiates. By really listening to what Dr. Rand and his staff continue to explain about pain and its function in the brain, you realize that the traditional pain management, again opiates of some type, really don’t complete the job of taking away pain but simply mask some of the symptoms and in reality can make the pain worse just by their continued use. Dr. Rand and Bay Recovery take an entirely different approach, a truly humane and logical approach not only to pain management but to addiction from drugs and alcohol. Looking into the problems I have had, Dr. Rand has created something very special in Bay Recovery, truely utilizing the concept of treating the whole person instead of just treating one specific problem or area. Dr. Rand appears to have a rather unique and emphatic mind, capable of getting to the bottom of problems, then using whatever tools are needed to help get a person out of their addiction, mental problems, alcoholism or the root pain issue.
Dr. Rands attitude is “lets fix you up completly”, not “lets fix one thing and send you on your way” which seems to be traditional medicines way of thinking. If a problem is seen, not in Dr. Rands area of medicine, he and his staff make sure you see the correct specialist, if one approach is not working, the attitude is ” we will find a way that works”. Bay Recovery has an in-house staff capable of handling crisis situations, interventions, traditional and non-traditional treatments.
Back to my case, I went in under emergency treatment about 6 months ago and spent one month in the in-patient program which during that time, I was able to get off the opiates without major problems dur to the innovative use of counteracting drugs and a daily participatory program. I was able during this time to slowly get the opiates out of my system and return home.
According to Dr. Rand, it takes about 2 years to really recover from the amount of opiates I was on, but I find myself stronger each day, more mentally alert and able to cope with life.
Did all this make the initial pain go away? NO, I am still in pain 24 hours a day, and I hurt like I did right after the accident. But, the amazing thing again is that I am not in as much pain as I was while on Opiates. I have, through Bay Recovery learned there are other ways to look at the pain and have learned a lot of ways of coping.
I know there are many of you out there looking for help and a way to get your life in order. Take a step and call Bay Recovery and get help like I do. John
